New To Power Vinyasa, Vinyasa and Hot Yoga?

Welcome! You are about to embark on a journey that can change your life. Curiosity and a desire to feel better brought us all to our mats. The amazing transformation that a regular yoga practice offers has kept us here. But it all starts with the first class. Just as you wouldn't expect to learn a musical instrument or a new language with one class, you can't expect to learn the Vinyasa flow after one practice. So go easy on yourself and stay open minded. You have taken the first step, now all you have to do is show up! And remember, relax and breathe - its just yoga!

I have never done yoga before, where do I start?
While the Building Blocks of Vinyasa class was designed for new students, you are safe to begin in any of our Open Level Vinyasa classes. The Bliss Hot classes are all beginner level and challenging and fun! Everyone has had a first class, so leave your ego at the door and approach yoga with an open mind and heart.

What and when to eat?
Yoga is best done on an empty stomach so do not eat anything 2 hours prior to class. A small snack an hour before is ok if you need to!

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!
This yoga will be warm and you will sweat. Hydration is key to avoid dizziness or fatigue during class. Ideally you want to drink 8 - 10 glasses of water (8 oz per glass) a day! Try not to drink to much water as it will only distract you from your practice by having to go to the bathroom!

Why the heat?

  • The heat allows us to get into postures more deeply and effectively, allowing for a greater range of movements in joints, muscles and ligaments. When your muscles and connective tissue become more elastic you allow for greater flexibility with less chance of injury.
  • Sweating promotes detoxification and elimination through the skin - which is the body's largest eliminating organ
  • Just as when your body raises its temperature to fight infection, the raised temperature in the room will assist in improving T-cell function and the proper functioning of your immune system
  • Your body burns fat more effectively in the heat.
  • Your metabolism speeds up the breakdown of glucose and fatty acids.
  • Practicing hot yoga strengthens willpower, self-control, concentration and determination by challenging you on your mat.
  • A great cardiovascular workout.
  • Because it feels good!

What do I wear?
Snug clothing that you are comfortable sweating in. Women typically wear yoga pants or shorts with a workout top or sports bra. Men wear running shorts and a snug shirt (sleeveless is good) that won't get in the way of practice. Shirts are optional for men.

Sunrise / Lunch Flow

An invigorating practice intended to energize your day. The perfect one-hour wake up, or one-hour midday break. All levels welcome.

Hatha

Gentle yoga that emphasizes posture alignment. This practice enhances muscle tone, flexibility and a peaceful mind. All levels welcome.

Anusara-Inspired

Based on Anusara Yoga - a specific system of alignment principles and a creative, heart-centered practice - this class provides both a physical challenge and an inspiration to awaken you to the potential of your spiritual purpose. For all levels.

Karma Classes

Karma Classes are by donation (suggested at $5 or more) with 100% of the proceeds donated to various local charities. The styles of Karma classes vary, so make sure you check the studio schedule. Please note that this class does not count against your studio membership. Check our Events and our Community links to hear about other events and organizations that we sponsor. All levels welcome.

Kids Yoga

Fun and imaginative, this class helps children build strength, flexibility, coordination and concentration in a non-competitive environment. Through basic postures and games, kids will cultivate creativity, self-esteem and self-awareness...not to mention burn off all that extra energy! While kids ages 1-101 are welcome at the center, this one is only for kids ages 4-10.

Bliss Hot

This practice follows a specific sequence of postures. The room is heated to approximately 32 degrees Celsius to facilitate safe, deep stretching, a detoxifying sweat and a healthy glow. Standing and seated postures included. This class is recommended to beginners and suitable for all levels of students. Not recommended for pregnant women unless you have been practicing in a heated environment regularly for at least 6-12 months prior to becoming pregnant.

Power Vinyasa

Vinyasa powered up with the Baptiste methof. Get ready to work hard, breathe hard and sweat it all out in a room slightly heated. (no A/C) This energetic and challenging class integrates the breath with movement and builds strength, flexibility and core stability. Sequences include standing, balancing, seated, twisting and inverted postures that will keep your yoga practice fresh and lively. Beginners will be challenged, all levels welcome.

Yin/Meditation

A sublime balance of movement and finding stillness, this class begins with long, deep stretching (Yin postures) to prepare the body for seated meditation - a practice that is about doing less and being more. Through breath, concentration, and observation, we learn to steady the mind to cultivate a deeper understanding of who we are and to discover a more profound connection to one another, the universe and ourselves. All levels welcome.

Beginner Classes

The perfect segue into yoga. Postures are introduced in a step-by-step manner with the correct breathing techniques. These classes are a great way to build a foundation and expand your practice. The studio is at room temperature. Dialogue is encouraged; questions and feedback are welcomed. Ideal for first timers.

Kundalini

This energizing flow will combine undulating movements in the spine, dynamic pranayama (prana expanding techinques), visualization of the chakras and chanting to purify the subtle body. This is a means to awaken the potential energy (Kundalini), which exists in a small bowl at the base of the spine. Rhythmic action and breath is used to facilitate the movement of this energy from the Root to the Crown, uniting the male-female, sun-moon, effort-surrender energies known as Shiva-Shakti. This union of energy is the aim of Kundalini yoga: a resolution of duality into unity again, a fusion with the Absolute. All levels.
